Session 4 · Homework · October 11 to 17
Have one long document summarised, and check one fact at the source
One long document, one page opened, and one fact you checked yourself.
On Saturday, AI summarised the 106 pages of the Dallas public schools' student handbook for Maman Grâce, and we found the exact sentence in the PDF. This week, it is your document.
Pick a long document you received
School rules, a contract, an insurance policy, a letter from an office, a bank or a hospital. A document you are comfortable showing an AI: no social security number, bank account or medical record.
Have it summarised, a page for each point
A new chat, the document attached as a PDF or a photo, then 4.1 with your own words in place of the brackets. If the AI asks for the document instead of inventing, that is a good sign: attach it.
Here is [the document: rules, contract, official letter, article], in [its language]. Summarise it in [your language] in ten points at most: [what you want to know: what I must do, by when, what is not allowed]. For each point, give the page number. If you are not sure of something, say so.
Ask for the exact sentence
Pick the point that matters most to you: a date, an amount, something not allowed. Then 4.2.
Show me the exact sentence, in the document's language, that point [number] comes from, and its page.
Open the page yourself
Read the sentence in the document, not in the chat. If it is not on the page given, look a few pages further on: many documents have a printed page number and another one in the PDF viewer.
If it does not hold, or for anything that does not come from the document:
Where did you get each of these facts? Give me your sources, and tell me what you guessed.
Health, money, law, papers
AI helps you understand. It does not replace the doctor, the lawyer or the certified translator. To understand, AI helps you very well. To decide, a qualified person.
Nothing from inside your documents in the group: the kind of document, and whether it held.
To go further: learn
Something new in your document? 4.3: the AI explains it with an example from our life, then asks you three questions, one at a time.
The four Session 4 promptsTell the group
One line is enough: the kind of document, and whether it held. Nothing from inside it. On Saturday we start with your results.
