Session 3 · Homework · October 4 to 10

Send one real letter written with AI

One letter, fifteen minutes, and a real person who receives it.

On Saturday we wrote Mutu's letter to his landlord together. This week it is yours. Just one, but a real one, and you send it.

1

Pick the letter you keep putting off

To a landlord, a school, an employer, an office, or an important message. Write down the facts: exact dates, what you have already done, what you are asking for, and the language the reader reads.

2

Write it in one request

A new chat, then 3.1 with your facts in place of the brackets. If your profile is saved in the assistant, the first line is already done. If the tone is off, one line: 3.2.

Here is who I am: [paste your profile]. I want a letter to [recipient: landlord / school / employer / office]: [the facts, with exact dates and what you have already done]. In [the recipient's language], [tone: polite / firm / warm], [length], ready to send by [email / post / WhatsApp]. If it is not in my language, add a translation underneath so I know what I am signing. Do not cite any law and do not invent any date or fact.

3

Ask it what it added

This is the move of the session. AI fills gaps without warning you: an adjective, a compliment, a promise. Read its list, then have it remove everything you never said.

Reread your letter. Tell me everything you added that I did not tell you.

Then:

Remove everything I did not tell you. Do not change any fact.

4

Read it out loud, then send it

A sentence that sounds wrong out loud will sound wrong to the person reading it. And if you translated it into a language you do not read, do the round trip: 3.4.

The rule for official documents

Immigration, court, medical: AI is very good at helping you understand the letter you received. But the official reply, or the official translation, takes a lawyer or a certified translator.

You are the one who signs the letter.

To go further: a project

For something that keeps coming back, your organisation, your work or your studies, create a project in ChatGPT or Claude. Describe it once. Every new conversation in that project already knows it.

The five Session 3 prompts

Tell the group

One line is enough: who you wrote to, and what the AI had added. On Saturday we start with your examples.
