About Mwamba

Dr. Muswamba Mwamba is a distinguished public health scholar, researcher, educator, and global advocate whose work bridges maternal and child health, immigrant well-being, and culturally grounded community empowerment. With more than two decades of service across academia, public health systems, and community organizations, he stands as one of the most influential Congolese public health leaders in the United States.

He currently serves as Program Director of the Dream Makers Think Tank, where he leads strategic research and innovation focused on strengthening Congolese identity, elevating community knowledge, and empowering the global diaspora. His vision centers on "educating, equipping, and empowering responsible Congolese around the world."

Dr. Mwamba is also an Assistant Professor of Public Health at Stephen F. Austin State University and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati. His academic work integrates rigorous research with real-world community engagement, particularly in immigrant fatherhood identity, breastfeeding equity, and minority health disparities.

Dr. Mwamba's professional experience includes leadership roles at the City of Dallas – Office of Community Care, where he launched and directed the groundbreaking WIC Peer Dad Program, trained all Peer Dad Breastfeeding Counselors in Texas, and chaired the national Men of WIC task force. He also served as Director of Reaching Our Brothers Everywhere (ROBE), and held roles at Parkland Hospital, Open Door Family Medical Group, and multiple public health agencies.

Dr. Mwamba is widely recognized for elevating the role of fathers in breastfeeding and early childhood health. He has presented at major national and international conferences including the GOLD Lactation Conference, National WIC Association, Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE), W.K. Kellogg Foundation First Food Forum, Minority Public Administrators Conference, and Infant Mortality Summits across the U.S. He is the first African-American father elected to the Board of Directors of the United States Breastfeeding Committee, where he served as Governance Chair.
